Licenses

WPF Text Editor licence is per developer, this means a license has to be purchased for every developer that will work with WPF Text Editor.
After purchasing a license you can include the component in your application royalty free, this allows developers to use it in an unlimited number of projects, that can be redistributed and sold without paying additional fees!

The license is bound with the developer's computer's name. It's not required to specify all the names when purchasing the license: this can be done also in a second time.

The license allows the developer to get a valid serial for his computer and for the latest release of WPF Text Editor: it doesn't allow to receive support and to download the updates that will be released in the future. To get support and download, the developer will have to buy a support package.

When the developer buys a license, he will receive a valid serial for WPF Text Editor in the Your orders page. This serial can be configured in a property of the component, called LicenseKey (see this page for further details about how to implement WPF Text Editor in your project). When a new WPF Text Editor version is released, the developer can download from the Download section the new version; in this case, old serials can be valid or not according to the version number of the release.

Versions are identified by three numbers, X.Y.Z. (for example, the first version that is going to be released will be the 1.0.0). Every serial that is generated when the user buys a license or download an update is bound to the X.Y part number of the release. This serial will be valid for all the versions with the same X.Y but different Z. For example, a serial generated for version 1.0.0 will be valid also for versions 1.0.1, 1.0.2 and so on. When the X.Y part number of the release changes, the serial is not valid anymore (for example, a serial generated for version 1.0.0 won't be valid for version 1.1.0 or 1.2.0). In this case, a new serial is required to continue using WPF Text Editor in your project: to get the new serial, a valid support package is required. During the support period, when the developer downloads a new version, he will be able to get a new serial in the Your orders page.

Here are some examples to help you understand the licensing policy:

Situation 1

The developer buys the license for version 1.0.0 and gets a valid serial in the Your orders page. After one month, version 1.0.1 is released: in this case, the developer can download the new version and use the old serial get at the moment of purchase to continue using WPF Text Editor, even if he hasn't a valid support package.

Situation 2

The developer buys a license for version 1.0.0 and gets a valid serial. After two months, version 1.1.0 is released: in this case, the developer can download the new version but the old serial received at the moment of purchase won't work anymore. If the developer has a valid support package, after the download of the new version he will be able to get the new serial to use with the new 1.1.0 version, from the Your orders page. Otherwhise, the WPF Text Editor component will become a demo: a warning message will be displayed and, after 30 trial days, all the functions will be disabled.

Support

The support for WPF Text Editor is sold as packages: every package has a different duration, with a starting and an ending date. During this period, the developer will be allowed to access to the Support section of this website, to send requests regarding problems or help needed for WPF Text Editor. He will also be allowed to download major updates that will be released in the future: in this case, the developer will receive by email the new serial for the new version.

The support package is like an annual fee, that is required to maintain the license royalty free and that allows the developer to use it in every project he's going to develop. This means that when you want to renew a support package, the support will always start from the expiring date of the old support package. Here are some example to allow you to understand better the licensing and support policy.

Situation 1

The developer buys a license and a 1 year support package in the same order on 01/04/2009. Until 01/04/2010, the developer will be allowed to get serials for the new major versions and to ask requests to the support service.

Situation 2

The developer buys a license on 01/04/2009. After two months, he undestands that WPF Text Editor is the best component for his project, so he decides to buy a 1 year support package. In this case, the support package will start from the date when the license has been purchased, so the support will be valid from 01/04/2009 to 01/04/2010.

Situation 3

The developer buys a license and a 1 year support package in the same order on 01/04/2009. On 01/03/2010 he plans to use WPF Text Editor also in his future projects, so he wants to renew his support: he access to the Buy page and buys a 1 year support package. In this case, the support will be valid from 01/04/2010 to 01/04/2011.

Situation 4

The developer buys a license and a 1 year support package in the same order on 01/04/2009. On 01/06/2010, after the support is expired, he decides to start a new project that will use WPF Text Editor, so he decides to renew his support, buying another 1 year support package. In this case, the support will be valid from 01/04/2010 to 01/04/2011.

Situation 5

The developer buys a license and a 1 year support package in the same order on 01/04/2009. On 02/04/2010 (more than 1 year after) he starts to work on a new project that uses WPF Text Editor, so he decides to renew his support. In this case, the same description of Situation 4 will be applied: the difference is that, in the list of available support packages, the 1 year support package will be disabled: this because the developer has to buy a support package that covers the period of time for which he decided not to get support. The developer will have to buy a 3 years support package, that will be valid from 01/04/2010  to 01/04/2013.
